Frisian politician Rinze Visser has passed away at the age of 87, the Communist Party of the Netherlands (CPN) announced. Visser was the longest-serving municipal councillor in the Netherlands and one of the country's last communist representatives. He was first elected in 1970 as a councillor for the communist party in the municipality of Lemsterland, which later merged into De Fryske Marren. He remained a councillor for over 55 years, but decided not to stand for re-election in March this year due to failing health.
