Tree of the year is red beech in Middelstum
The red beech tree at the entrance of the St. Hippolytus Church in Middelstum (Groningen) has won the public election for Tree of the Year. The tree, which is more than 150 years old, received almost 3000 votes more than the number two, which is located in Utrecht. The election will be held by the SBNL Nature Fund. With the prize, the fund wants to draw attention to beautiful, special or monumental trees, or trees that are significant for the environment and the community de-risked.
