A motion by the Party for the Animals to investigate the abolition of the dog tax has not received a majority in the city council of Leeuwarden. Group chairman Johannes Beers had asked the board to see if the tax could be ended in the coming years, but there was insufficient political support for this. According to Beers, the dog tax is an outdated levy that no longer fits the times.
