Herman Brood between Mondriaan and Rembrandt: painting included in the art collection of the State

An untitled painting by the singer and artist Herman Brood, who died in 2001, has been included in the government's art collection. The curators of the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE) say they came to this decision because "we believe that Herman Brood, as an icon from the twentieth century, should be given more respect as an artist." It is the first time that a work of art by Brood has been included in the National Collection, an enormous collection of more than 120,000 works of art and historical objects owned by the Dutch state.
