No fireworks in Leeuwarden, Harlingen and Smallingerland: municipalities deny exemptions

Three more Frisian municipalities will not allow fireworks during the upcoming New Year's Eve. Smallingerland is still considering a central event, but Harlingen and Leeuwarden are not. A consumer fireworks ban went into effect this year. Only associations and foundations can still set off fireworks under certain conditions, such as organizing a public fireworks show. However, they must first obtain an exemption from the municipality.
