Minister wants territorial order for released terrorists, mayors critical
The mayors of Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht question the government's plan to monitor dangerous persons via electronic surveillance and area commands. An area command requires someone to stay in an assigned place, such as a neighborhood. The Cabinet has long been looking for additional measures to better track people who have been identified as a threat to national security. Minister of Justice David van Weel emphasizes that the ultimate goal is still to get these people out of the country.
