27/10 on Nieuwsuur: Israeli elections • NPO cancels Eurovision • Civil service cuts

Parliamentary elections are taking place in Israel today for the first time since the Hamas terror attack on 7 October 2023. Although Israelis vote for parties rather than individual candidates, the election is also seen as a referendum on Benjamin Netanyahu, the country's longest-serving prime minister. According to the latest polls, his party is trailing slightly behind the Yashar party, a new party led by former army chief Gadi Eisenkot.
